Let’s get back to KL, shall we? A little switch of tastebuds and we’re off to Kuchai Lama this time for my new found favourite. If you’d remember Chicken Hot Pot Restaurant, this shop that I’m gonna introduce to you is just around the corner too.

Introducing… Ah Soon’s Fish Head Mee at Winsoon Cafe, Kuchai Lama. This time we do it the KL style. The fish head noodle is exactly the milkish and sour type, which differs from the clear soup style we have in Penang. Being a lover of sour and spicy food, this is what I have been craving for in KL!

As the name of the shop depicts, they specialize in Fish Head Noodle, while you also can choose the Fish Paste Noodle or combination of Fish Head and Fish Paste. Among other famous choice includes the Fresh Prawn Noodle, Sotong Ball Noodle (Mee Hoon) and their long list of side dishes (which I don’t really fancy).

The Main Course - The Fish Head Mee Hoon… and below are the side dishes.

The portion is kinda standard… way bigger than the ones we have in Penang, as expected. With RM7.50 per bowl, pretty much value for money. They come with the sambal sauce which complements the soup and the fish!

Well, although I’ve been there many times, I always fail to capture lots of pictures of the stall. One of the reason is that I’m way too busy eating… cos they serve real fast (everything is mass prepared) and I busy eating and I’m busy munching away and I’m freakingly busy drying up the whole bowl of noodle.

Siddique, here you go! Sorry for the delay bro… Hope this post can drive you all the way to Penang for some taste of the legendary Nasi Kandar! More posts today!
What’s next? Let me bring to you my all-time-favourite Nasi Kandar or Nasi Melayu from Penang. The stall which serves arguably the best Nasi Kandar that I have been savouring the last 17 years. That’s really close to where I stay, yes it is Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu. For health reasons, you might stomp at me for suggesting a Nasi Kandar place to eat for breakfast… but heck! I just eat because it taste so good and I will never miss it unless I fall sick, to be honest.

Still have a very clear picture in my mind, how I sacrificed my sleeping hours by waking up early just to “tapao” nasi kandar to school as my breakfast. By 6.30 a.m, it was already a long queue in the line! Well, things changed. They now operate another stall for the night session too at Medan Selera Farlim (if I am not wrong, it’s the one opposite Shell and Sin Kang School).

Well, you’ll anticipate a lot of students and working class people eating there on the weekdays and on the weekends, the queue lines are endless. Nevertheless they are efficient and you don’t have to wait long either. Unlike the Classic Hokkien Mee in Dato Keramat, dang! Nowadays, everytime I go back to Penang and if time permits, I’ll savour a plateful of Nasi Kandar Basah at around 10 a.m. Although it’s kinda near to their closing time, it’s still good despite lesser choice of dish.

Still fancy waiting? Don’t worry for the long queue. They are very fast. Even got one section specially to cater you “tapao” needs… Take-Away section la tu!

After all, Nasi Kandar is all about the Nasi, the Curry Fish, the Curry Chicken, Beef, Mutton, Vegetables, Eggs, Squids, Prawns, etc. Typical. So what’s so nice about this Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu?

IMHO, erm… it’s all about the taste. I know you guys even far away from Penang would say that “Yeah, we also have Pelita in KL ma, and many other nasi kandar stalls… why wana have the trouble to travel to Penang?”. I say, you wanna have the traditional Malay style Nasi Kandar with a special taste of their curry, this is the place to be.

Their curry is not so spicy as compared to other Indian Nasi Kandar, especially the ones at Chowrasta Market and the like. A lil sweetness plus aromatic spice really bring the best out of the Nasi Kandar. Try it for yourself and you’ll get what I mean. You simply won’t sweat of the typical flaming hot nasi kandar but you’ll definitely enjoy the delicacy.

More? Yes, there’s also famous roti canai stall beside this shop which is also owned by the same boss. So, there are two shops overall, one for nasi kandar and the other one is for roti canai. The queue for the roti canai is also massive. Look at the mass production of roti canai and you’ll understand.

My personal tips? Try to get a plate of rice which is not just off the rice cooker. Meaning to say, get a plate of rice that is not so hot and freshly off the stove… simply because if it is too hot, you’ll succumb to temperature and your tastebuds really can’t taste the spice and curry well. That’s just what I felt after so many years of Nasi Kandar-ing. Overall, my favourite is still the Kuah Daging!

First of all, I just wanna say Malaysia memang boleh. Slowmyx is really keeping me frustrated with their incredible speed… It took me 30 minutes just to load Google’s main page. How about that for a RM99 per month service I have to pay every month? Even better, my web host - TapakWeb is giving me insanely godlike services with downtime more than you can ever imagine. My website and mail servers are running as usual but it could be down for the next 24 hrs for no reasons. Worst is when they actually suspended my account saying that I did not pay up and asking me to contact billing/support staff that does not exist! Thumbs up Malaysia!
Now let’s go back to the food, shall we? My sincere apologies for the backdated posts that’s coming up within these few days. This time around I’ll be bring you guys an in depth focus of food in PJ, the famous hangout places for UM students. Begin with this special beef noodles from Uncle Cheng, from Kluang, Johor.
Located at Restaurant Khasiat, Seksyen 17, it is just somewhere close to Restaurant How Yee Kee and Kim Seng Cafe. Uncle Julian Cheng operated this stall, speaking real cool English with a motto:
Why bring home a cow? Let our special noodle do the moo!
Let’s check it out what he’s got to offer!

It was suppose to be post final exam farewell luncheon. After 4 gruelling years of uni life, it has finally come to an end and come to think of a place to have a proper farewell lunch,… Jaya One - nearest, most convenient, and many choices.
Of we went… It supposed to be Kissaten Japanese Restaurant but too bad it was closed on Monday. The group decided to opt for Kinnaree, the restaurant I am so afraid to enter cos seemingly from exterior, the restaurant looked just too classy for my pocket.
I was late actually, not in time to stage a proper protest though, LOL… Nah, just kidding… I was freaking hungry - slept only 1.5 hrs (0.5 hrs for 3 separate session for the whole day) just to get myself ready for my final exam paper, with no subtle meal to accompany… Just plain water. Gosh.

It’s been a while since I blogged. My final hurdle of my 17 years of education being the only reason I was away for so long. A very long hiatus indeed. Well, I’m back with more food as promised.
If you’re wondering around PJ town and got a headache when searching for dinner, a satisfying Wan Than Mee usually does the job. This time, I bring to you FLYING Wan Than Mee. Why fly?

This is why I said so. The chef practically threw the noodle so high up in the air, in a way to make the noodle more spongy and tastier? I dunno lah, but heck overall, the noodle is damn nice. Read the rest of this entry »

Honestly, whenever I am at One Utama Shopping Complex for some Japanese food, I am often left with problems deciding which place to eat. There’s simply too many choices!
Sushi King, Sushi Zanmai, Sushi Groove, Nippon Yataimura, Sakae Sushi, Shogun Saisaki, Shojikiya, Teppanyaki and Yoshinoya… Make your choice, please.
Many a time, I am way too hungry and I opted to go to the nearest one. This time, Dear selected Sushi Groove. Coincidently, it’s our post-valentine dinner. Ooo, I totally enjoyed the ambience.

A familiar sight, the restaurant is pretty much empty during weekdays. Don’t ask me why, but I like the privacy there… and the friendly-&-prompt services.

My sincere apologies for the lack of update for the previous 2 weeks. It’s been hell of a week with Desmond-t going thru difficult spells of his life. Mid Semester tests came in three’s in-a-week, thesis stalled due to theorectically defying experiments, job hunting with either no-replies and rejections plus pain in the @$$ assignments and lab reports!
Right away after these ordeal, Desmond-t did had his stress reliever, of course with lotsa of food, inclusive the duck rice at Kepong Baru, dinner at Izzi KL, chilling out at Spring Lounge - Club Quattro and many more! But heck, let’s do some overdue posts okay? Here we go, the 100°C Steamboat Restaurant at Niu Ze Xui (NZX) Commercial Centre, Ara Damansara.

If KL got nice Thai style seafood at Nong & Jimmy, in Penang we have Khuntai! It’s not a new place but certainly a well known place among Penangites, especially for those who live in Butterworth. Desmond-t had been to this restaurant for more than 5 times previously but unfortunately they were all camera-less dining experience. Recently during the 2nd day of CNY, Desmond-t joined Bi’s family for a feast in this Khuntai Thai Seafood Restaurant.
