Once again, I’ll be returning home to Penang real soon for a few times this coming months. Home sweet home it is. Last month itself, I went back twice already and God knows how many miles am I going to cover within the next festive season. I’m glad to be home, with family and friends for Christmas and soon for Chinese New Year.

Whenever I’m back, Penang never fail to provide me new places where nice and yummylicious food can be found. This time around, it’s all a-claypot-affair in Hillside, Tanjung Tokong. You guys must have heard of Lemon Grass Restaurant or the Flame Bistro in Tanjung Tokong, right? Well, this Claypot Restaurant is located directly opposite of these two shops. If you are still not sure, it is somewhere around the 7-Eleven of Tanjung Tokong (Opp Paradise and Crown Prince Hotel), which is where the Tg. Tokong hawker center is located. Still not sure? Then google for “Ingolf Kneipe”, the famous German restaurant in Penang. You should be very close to this very special claypot feast.

What attracts me to this restaurant is that it is seclusive and has a “home ambience”. Basically, it is actually a semi-detached-house-turned-into-a-restaurant concept. The inner section of the shop is pretty cozy and simple design with some of the traditional piece of art.

Simple enough, the food is yet another touch of a hidden treasure of Penang. I may be not be reviewing much of the food in this restaurant largely due to the fact only myself and Mr. Smallface went there for this initial food tasting session. 2 dudes, 3 main courses, 5 bowls of rice, 2 soupy appetizer and 2 drinks = ~RM40++

The drinks: Iced Lemon Tea and Iced Longan.

Appetizer: The white carrot soup. Not bad as a starter, cleanse your tummy before you can taste the actual claypot specialty. A small bowl of soup does the job, not too much though.

The main course, the non-halal and yet spicy claypot pork with curry. Rating 4/5

How about some signature claypot chicken as recommended by the chef? Rating 4.5/5, silky smooth baby!

Claypot Brinjal. I like this the most, simply because I know not many places serve nicely cooked brinjal… LOL

Pretty short review, I know. But most of all, they deserve a place in my blog simply they thrilled me with lots of explanation of the dish. The ladyboss really provide top notch service and very good at introducing their signature dish based on our choice of taste. Thumbs up!

Desmond-t again left the shop reeling with satisfaction and headed to Flame for a social game of foosball.
