If KL got nice Thai style seafood at Nong & Jimmy, in Penang we have Khuntai! It’s not a new place but certainly a well known place among Penangites, especially for those who live in Butterworth. Desmond-t had been to this restaurant for more than 5 times previously but unfortunately they were all camera-less dining experience. Recently during the 2nd day of CNY, Desmond-t joined Bi’s family for a feast in this Khuntai Thai Seafood Restaurant.

Unfortunately, for this trip I was unable to bring to you guys the pricing list as this meal was generously paid by Waye Howe & Ling. Thanks to them for such a great feast! It was after all a warmth CNY meal in a highly rated restaurant like this.

Also, if you’re looking for maps, I’d suggest you try this Google Map link. It is somewhere near to Raja Uda and close to Permatang Pauh & Bagan Ajam as well. If you read my previous blog entry about Zi Wei Yuan Steamboat, you will realize it is a stone throw away too.

It was the 2nd day of CNY, the place was full with guests and luckily we made our reservations way ahead! Hmm, I’m sure you can’t wait until the end of this post for the contact details right? Here you go first!

104, Permatang Tengah,
13000 Butterworth,
Penang, Malaysia
Phone: 04-3327523

Besides the main dining hall, you may also opt for the huts and shades on the exterior part of the restaurant. Just some “feel” of being in Thailand as the table and chairs are all bamboo made. As we are waiting for the long queue due to the massive crowd, this restaurant offers its specialty - the fantastic seafood display!

Simply awesome isn’t it?  They’ve got many of the rare seafood. The Geoduck, Lobsters, Spider Crabs and even Fresh Water Prawns. So, now I don’t have to go until Tanjung Tualang to eat already!

The Live La La - You can even see it squirts out some water and moving around!

 Crabs are just crabs.

The lobster’s battle. A nice scene where you can see these two lobsters battling it out. After that, they were battling for their lives in the hot wok LOL.

Here you go, the fresh water prawns. It is as large as almost a foot long!

If not good enough, you can even scoop for yourself! Select the seafood that you want and off to the kitchen!

The Marble Goby - I call them stacking fish. Somehow they will just stack up even after u disturb them!

The enormous fugly looking spider crab. Enough of craps, let’s go for the food.

Some belachan rice to fill your huingry stomach first. Everyone’s too hungry, just take a few scoops to neutralize the excess acids in your tummy.

This is the ultimate dish - they call it the Superstar, not too sure though, but it is actually sour garlic steamed Squids and La La. Very sour and suites me! They actually serves this meal with several other seafood too, but  we did not opt for that.

Try the sauce of the Superstar dish - you will taste the extreme Sour-Ness!!! Oooh, nice!

The ordinary green Kai Lan to neutralize your taste buds and balance the spices in your belly.

Ayam masak Gajus - Cashew Nuts Chicken.

Another ultimate dish - Black Pepper Fried Glass Noodle with Crabs. A good pointer is stir and mix the glass noodle and crab very well to fully enjoy the taste.

Otak-otak. Not the Johor style but the Thai Style Otak-otak. Filled with seafood some more!

Spice Thai Style Steamed Fish - you can refill the “soup” of this dish by yourself as it is slow-cooked by charcoal as you can see from the above. Wanna know how spicy it is?

Ini dia… Spicy or not? You tell me.

Nice place. Attractive ambience. Fast serving food. Picturesque display of seafood. Tantalizing food. Affordable and reasonable pricing. This place is a must-visit place in Penang!
