Finally, back to a Malaysian food post this time. Another interesting note this time is that you will need to further cook your food at this restaurant in order to enjoy the best taste which suites your liking.

Desmond-t brings to you The Pepper Lunch Restaurant at The Pavilion, KL. Strategically located directly opposite J.Co Donuts which is very close to the Food Republic giant food court, I was lucky enough to be the first few customers of this brand NEW restaurant.

It was its grand opening on December 19th, 2008. They have this special casual steakhouse concept, all the way from none other than…Japan. As of now, Pepper Lunch has already open branches over 8 countries in Asia.

Many well-wishers flocked the restaurant with humongous congratulation bouquets all over the restaurant’s perimeter. At first sight, many would have thought it is a new florist shop rather than a restaurant! Kidding…
One positive point for this restaurant is that they have a huge menu with food illustration right upon the walkway towards its entrance. So, you don’t have to decide your meal after you have taken your seat. Instead, you may even decide whether is it the right place for you to dine, just to avoid any disappointment… be it on the food expectation or avoid ordering overpriced food.
For me, being at The Pavilion, I certainly expected an elevated pricing list for anything that is sold there. So forth is for this restaurant, the price is a little bit above average, I would say. But at least, I feel worth my money and time spent there simply because I kinda fancy the food as well as their concept.
Very comprehensive menu isn’t it? Even complete with set meals, desserts and even take away menu!
*Click to enlarge this image, if you want to see the pricing clearly*

As you make your order and pay for your meal, you have the chance to learn from the repeating cooking steps as shown on the LCD TV. This is because, the food they serve to you requires some final “touch up” by yourself just to make sure that you add the additives suiting to your taste.

For example, my selection is this Hamburger Steak with Fried Egg, RM21.80. The step-by-step cooking guide is pretty helpful as they instruct with simple English subtitling. Spread the butter evenly around the hamburger, turn the hamburger and wait for a couple of minutes.

Then, pour the sauce of your choice, either the Garlic Soy Sauce or the Honey Brown Sauce and mix it again. After that, it’s Bon Appetite!

Dear’s choice was this Combo Cut Steak & Chicken, RM23.80. I shall highlight that the beef for the steak and hamburger are imported from the land Down Under and quality is definitely guaranteed. I rate the steak and hamburger highly as they are fresh and most of all… SEDAP!
Overall, quite a satisfying meal but again, due to budget constraint, I’ll opt for a cheaper food (if there is any) in The Pavilion, KL.
p/s: The parking for 3.5 hours there is freaking RM12 and I am so not going to Pavilion again… damn right, it is a hangout for the rich and feh-mes, not for poor student like me!

*Update* Desmond-t will be posting his X’mas food entries within this few days.
After reading about so many German food post from fellow food bloggers a.k.a “Floggers” throughout the web, I can’t help but to post my very own version of German food entry. I have not been to any of the famous local German restaurants yet, be it at Ingolf Kneipe in Penang, or the Bavarian Bierhaus at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara.

But one thing is for sure, the delighting taste of the German food from this very special restaurant in Sydney still lingers in my memories. Although it’s been close to 3 years, this backdated post is still my best experience of a German dining. Let’s go to the Löwenbräu Keller Restaurant at The Rocks, Sydney, Australia!

I’m home again for this Christmas, and no surprise, this festive season promises more food galore all over Penang. My usual Christmas Eve plans remain the same, spending quality time and dinner with my mom. No difference this time, I already made reservation this time around to dine and have some simple countdown party at Bayview Georgetown Hotel. So, do check my upcoming entries once I return to KL for my final semester of studies.
*Updated* Just returned from the lousiest countdown party ever in Bayview Hotel. I don’t even feel like mentioning it in my blog anymore..poof!*

Once again, I’ll be returning home to Penang real soon for a few times this coming months. Home sweet home it is. Last month itself, I went back twice already and God knows how many miles am I going to cover within the next festive season. I’m glad to be home, with family and friends for Christmas and soon for Chinese New Year.
Whenever I’m back, Penang never fail to provide me new places where nice and yummylicious food can be found. This time around, it’s all a-claypot-affair in Hillside, Tanjung Tokong. You guys must have heard of Lemon Grass Restaurant or the Flame Bistro in Tanjung Tokong, right? Well, this Claypot Restaurant is located directly opposite of these two shops. If you are still not sure, it is somewhere around the 7-Eleven of Tanjung Tokong (Opp Paradise and Crown Prince Hotel), which is where the Tg. Tokong hawker center is located. Still not sure? Then google for “Ingolf Kneipe”, the famous German restaurant in Penang. You should be very close to this very special claypot feast.

What attracts me to this restaurant is that it is seclusive and has a “home ambience”. Basically, it is actually a semi-detached-house-turned-into-a-restaurant concept. The inner section of the shop is pretty cozy and simple design with some of the traditional piece of art.

Right after camping and whitewater rafting at Sg. Sedim, Kulim, my next destination was this famous and secluded restaurant deep inside Kulim. Many of you might have heard of it, largely because it has been promoted on TV by Jason a.k.a “Axian” of the food program called “Taste With Jason” on Astro AEC.
Yes, I am a big fan of Axian and I would definitely try the food he recommended in his program whenever I have the chance. No matter how far he goes, if I so happen to pass by, I won’t miss my chance to verify his recommendations. Previously was of course the Tanjuang Tualang Fresh Water Lobster/Prawns food post (gonna post a second update, COMING SOON!).
Why is this place so special? It must be really special which drives me all the way from KL to eat in this “ulu kampung” area right? If you are wondering why, Desmond-t is going to tell you that simply because their dish is super-FRESH and most of all - cooked to perfection!
Let’s head to the Restaurant Kolam Ikan.

When you see this small road with shady oil palms, you’re right at the doorstep. Plenty of places to park, but still, the more cars you see, the longer you’ll have to wait for a seat because the restaurant itself does not accomodate more than 25 tables I guess.

Ever heard of whitewater rafting? If you know and heard of it, or even seen it on movies or over the web, will ever consider trying it? Desmond-t seriously recommends this extreme sport to those who are willing to face endurance challenge and mind-boggling drops at various levels of creeks.
Venturing Down The "Kiss Drop"... Too fast, too furious! Extreme adventure at its best!
“Wikipedia defines whitewater rafting as a challenging recreational activity utilizing a raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water. This is usually done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water, in order to thrill and excite the raft passengers. The development of this activity as a leisure sport has become popular since the mid 1970s.”

At last, the food is here. I know many of you have been waiting for this entry.
CK Lam, Allie, SlowCatchUpKuan, CindyC … I know how much you guys indulge in food blogging, as trust me, I like to eat as much as you do! Hehe thank you very much for your comments, you guys inspired me to blog even more! Here you go with the food from Macao.
One step at a time, k? Jordin Sparks taught me this way.
So, what is the most-freaking-famous food in Macao? I bet you guys should have noticed the preview of my post in my *NEW* “Coming Up Next” sidebar section. Portuguese Egg Tart it is, and hence a prolonged introduction.

As many of you might know, Macau used to be colonized by the Portuguese for quite sometime and the cultural exchange is almost as much like some of the Serani’s in Malacca. Even now, wherever you go in Macao, there is signboards written in Portuguese language. But the funny thing is, when you ask any of the Chinese locals, they do not understand a single word of Portuguese, and the Portuguese locals,…they do not know anything much about the Chinese. Hmm…not much cultural exchange though, but definitely not for food.

The first thing when you hear the word “Macao” or “Macau”, what does your brain interpret?
Honestly, it is none other than C-A-S-I-N-O, rite?
FYI, Macau consistst of three islands, The Macau Peninsula as the main island and also The Isles of Taipa (Cotai Strip) and Coloane that are closely linked by bridges. This Special Administration Region (S.A.R) of Macao is indeed famous of being the tourist spot for gambling and gaming. Otherwise, it is also known as the “Las Vegas” of Asia. The latest addition of casino is of course The Venetian Macao, yet another multi-million investment by Las Vegas tycoon Sheldon Adelson.
There’s so many casinos in this tourism-based island. Every 5 mins of walk around the Macao Peninsula, you will bump into another entrance of casino. Even when you walked into a hotel, you will eventually be led into the casino first, before you can get yourself registered for a room. Gambling comes first, then only accomodation.
The best thing is that the hotel concierge and the casino stewards really treat you with first class services, even if you are not gambling, or just pretending to be gambling. They serve you with fruit juices and snacks, all free of charge, just as long as you are eligible to enter the casino. Nice huh? Myself and my family went to most of the well known casinos like The Venetian Macao, MGM Grand, Wynn, Casino Lisboa, Grand Lisboa Casino. Just entertain ourselves with some petty bets, so that I can proudly tell my friends and relatives that I’ve gambled in Macao before! LOL

At last, I managed to spend some time to blog about my travel. Should have blogged about this Macao trip of mine long time ago. Let me begin with the planning part.
Trip Objective: Food Galore and Budget Travelling
For a budget trip, as usual, Air Asia provides the cheapest air ticket all the way from LCCT in Sepang to Macao International Airport. Needless to say, I managed to get my return tickets for roughly around RM300++ of which I booked 3 months prior to my trip.
Photo Credit: AirHostess.info - p/s Look at RM9.99, not the chicks!
Most people would take this budget airline transit before making their way ultimately to Hong Kong as this is rather a cheaper alternative if you don’t want to spend extra money for travelling on a direct flight. Not for my case, my trip does not include Hong Kong as my mom, my elder brother and I decided to spend more time travelling in Macao and Zhuhai in this 4D 3N trip. So, 2 days Zhuhai, 2 days Macao… just nice. Read the rest of this entry »
