Yeap, this is meant to be Dear’s birthday celebration Part II, which mom decided to treat her lunch. Location was Canton-i at Queensbay Mall, Penang. It was such a hectic weekend whereby we need to meet up with family and friends for her birthday celebrations and of course spend some quality time with Penang food.

Kinda rush though, let’s allow the pictures to do all the talking as I do not record much of the resources and information during my visit to Canton-i. By the way, the restaurant does now allow any sort of photography though. So, I just manage to capture from the outside of the shop and some pics on the food itself. I just… don’t understand why!

Pretty ordinary and cozy restaurant in the inside. Not much of a design to copy either, yet they don’t allow photography. I thought there were many artsy copyrights at first! So, all I have is food and drinks from Canton-i.

Drinks from left to right: Flowering Red Amaranth, Hawaiian Coffee, Combo Mix Fruit Juice and ”Yin Yeung” Coffee with Tea.

The so-called Char Siew + Siew Yuk Fan a.k.a Roast Pork & Roast Pork Belly Rice. Trust me, they serve one of the best Siew Yuk @ Roast Pork Belly in town. My words could not describe how tender it was! Awesome!

 Jellyfish with Cuttlefish Combination.

Lor Eggs, Taufu and Chicken Wings as side dishes.

Stir-fried Rice Noodles with Sliced Beef. It seems pretty ordinary but I highly recommends this dish as well. The rice noodles are special in a way that it is not so oily if compared to other Penang Koay Teow though.

This one needs no further explaination. Their Signature Prawn Wan Than Noodles. Their Wan Than tops the chart, as expected. Multiple prawns in each wan than! Imagine that in your mouth!

”Theng Chai Chok”… totally forgotten how t odescribe this congee in English. Oops!

The ever joyous and delightful girl. She finally had her first Siew Yuk! An achievement for a non-pork eater.

All in all, Canton-i really bring to us Malaysian some taste of the best of Chinese cuisine of which is comparable to those in China and Hong Kong. I have to say that it is pricey though but I bet it is definitely worth the money for each bite that i savoured.

It’s simply yummylicious!

3 weeks without an update huh? Well, it’s been a long 3 weeks for me. While I began my new chapter of life working in a new company, everything has changed to the very little details. Working life has so much to offer and I am starting to feel time and money is not enough.

4 massive birthday celebrations with dearest blogpost are coming up next but for now, let me get to you with this Euro Deli Grill at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng (Behind Public Bank Tower, off KLCC). So it was supposed to be a double birthday celebration for Swee Heng and Jian Huat, this place came to my mind and off we went for a try out.

Orange is the theme of the restaurant. Euro Deli Grill is a German-Swiss restaurant which serves one of the best pork knuckles and German Sausages in town. Don’t get me wrong, they serve really good sausages! Read the rest of this entry »

I’m kicking off with the new series of PJ Food Guide, after 4 years of food hunting as a student from University of Malaya. With this, I hope the new batch of students would have a greater picture of food around UM and PJ itself. On the other hand, to those who wish to hunt something light to fill your tummy or eating out in PJ, you are at the right post.

So, where is cheap and affordable to eat? That is for sure a common yet top priority question for students (well, at least for me!), although I know students nowadays like to go to fast food outlets or even restaurants even for an ordinary meal. Lavish… but not me.

First stop, Chuan Lee Restaurant, Jalan Bukit 11/2. The best way to describe the location is of course the same road down the hill at University Towers (UT). As you go down hill, the last shop on the row of shop houses on your left is the exact destination. Usually packed during lunch hours, it is a ideal location for students and working class people. Cheap hawker food with reasonably big portion can satisfy your gluttony at least for lunch. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s get back to KL, shall we? A little switch of tastebuds and we’re off to Kuchai Lama this time for my new found favourite. If you’d remember Chicken Hot Pot Restaurant, this shop that I’m gonna introduce to you is just around the corner too.

Introducing… Ah Soon’s Fish Head Mee at Winsoon Cafe, Kuchai Lama. This time we do it the KL style. The fish head noodle is exactly the milkish and sour type, which differs from the clear soup style we have in Penang. Being a lover of sour and spicy food, this is what I have been craving for in KL! First of all, I just wanna say Malaysia memang boleh. Slowmyx is really keeping me frustrated with their incredible speed… It took me 30 minutes just to load Google’s main page. How about that for a RM99 per month service I have to pay every month? Even better, my web host - TapakWeb is giving me insanely godlike services with downtime more than you can ever imagine. My website and mail servers are running as usual but it could be down for the next 24 hrs for no reasons. Worst is when they actually suspended my account saying that I did not pay up and asking me to contact billing/support staff that does not exist! Thumbs up Malaysia!

Now let’s go back to the food, shall we? My sincere apologies for the backdated posts that’s coming up within these few days. This time around I’ll be bring you guys an in depth focus of food in PJ, the famous hangout places for UM students. Begin with this special beef noodles from Uncle Cheng, from Kluang, Johor.

Located at Restaurant Khasiat, Seksyen 17, it is just somewhere close to Restaurant How Yee Kee and Kim Seng Cafe. Uncle Julian Cheng operated this stall, speaking real cool English with a motto:

Why bring home a cow? Let our special noodle do the moo!

Let’s check it out what he’s got to offer!

It’s been a while since I blogged. My final hurdle of my 17 years of education being the only reason I was away for so long. A very long hiatus indeed. Well, I’m back with more food as promised.

If you’re wondering around PJ town and got a headache when searching for dinner, a satisfying Wan Than Mee usually does the job. This time, I bring to you FLYING Wan Than Mee. Why fly?

This is why I said so. The chef practically threw the noodle so high up in the air, in a way to make the noodle more spongy and tastier? I dunno lah, but heck overall, the noodle is damn nice. Read the rest of this entry »

My sincere apologies for the lack of update for the previous 2 weeks. It’s been hell of a week with Desmond-t going thru difficult spells of his life. Mid Semester tests came in three’s in-a-week, thesis stalled due to theorectically defying experiments, job hunting with either no-replies and rejections plus pain in the @$$ assignments and lab reports!

Right away after these ordeal, Desmond-t did had his stress reliever, of course with lotsa of food, inclusive the duck rice at Kepong Baru, dinner at Izzi KL, chilling out at Spring Lounge - Club Quattro and many more! But heck, let’s do some overdue posts okay? Here we go, the 100°C Steamboat Restaurant at Niu Ze Xui (NZX) Commercial Centre, Ara Damansara.

It was another long weekend as the Thaipusam holiday was celebrated in most states across the nation. Desmond-t took this opportunity for a short adventure in Pulau Ketam, a must-go island in West Malaysia if you were to experience nice and cheap seafood delicacies. As you might have noticed earlier, this is a food cum going places entry. I shall begin with the glutinous one first, then only our jalan-jalan trip around the island (although I did it the other way round during my actual trip).

Before we go any further, let me share with you my overall food experience:
Pulau Ketam’s seafood totally dominated Kuala Selangor’s seafood without any doubt. The following is the reason why I was so attracted and in love with the seafood there.

The first snack I had was ultimately the best - The La La Chien (Omelette  with La La). Frankly, there’s a lot of stalls selling this Oyster Omellete and “La La Chien”. At list 5 stalls on the main street itself.

This is a Chinese restaurant, as depicted by the name - wholly owned by a Chinese national too. I was pretty surprised when I first entered this restaurant. There’s really a lot of China men dining and speaking away their dialects. For the first time, Hokkien was over ruled in Penang, only at this Tang Dynasty Restaurant.

Well, the cook, the boss and other staffs are all from China. I began to reminisce the food I had back in Zhuhai… Right away we did ordered a range of quite similar food we had last time over there. It turned to be a pleasant surprise to us!

Yes, due to popular demand to post for CNY updates, I decided to defer my Tang Dynasty Imperial Noodle Restaurant review and I proudly bring to you this post. It’s a Local Food cum Going Places review instead.

It was my last day in Penang and it was also the Sixth Day of CNY before returning to the plain boring uni life in KL. So, no more procrastinating and off I went to the ever famous Kek Lok Si Temple.

Wondering why I said “procrastinating”? Well, you should be well versed with how the usual activities during CNY rhymes. Visiting, reunions, meet ups, g***ling etc. Finally, everyone began to get dispersed from Penang and I got some time off to travel on my own.

Co-incidently, Mom just got discharged from hospital and off we went for a lighter meal. On the way up to Air Hitam, where the Kek Lok Si Temple is located, we decided to take a detour to Paya Terubong for Hun Sai Fish Bee Hoon Soup.
